Supporting the strategic development of Aseptic Services in England

With the permission of NHS England, we are delighted to publish this independent review by the NHS Transformation Unit. In November 2025, the TU were commissioned by NHS England’s Infusions and Special Medicines Programme to undertake a review of aseptic medicines production services in England. Its purpose was to identify impactful changes that would support aseptic services nationally to meet future demand and respond to current service challenges.

Drawing on engagement with NHS aseptic service leads, regional aseptic production hub teams, independent aseptic compounders, NHS provider trusts with outsourced services and system leaders, the report identifies the practical actions needed to strengthen resilience, increase production capacity and support safe, timely access to aseptically prepared medicines for NHS patients. Its findings are intended to inform future planning and support continued collaboration across the NHS and with industry partners.
