How we can support you with workforce planning

Our strategic workforce planning approach supports clients to plan their future workforce effectively. We work in partnership with clients across the NHS and healthcare sector to develop a data driven, fit for purpose and achievable workforce plan, whether that be at a team, specialty, provider or system level.

We support our clients to:

  • Take a strategic workforce planning approach to design the workforce around the population health needs and support reducing health inequalities
  • Model the implications of new models of care from an existing and future workforce perspective
  • Provide workforce transformation expertise including programme management, organisational design and workforce planning.

We draw on our analytics capability to derive population health insights, current demand and workforce profile and model into future workforce requirements.

Our OD and engagement experience, including NHSE’s HEE Star trained practitioners, allows us to explore not just the future whole time equivalent (WTE) model but also how we respond to the need to train, retain and reform.

This approach is aligned to Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)’s 6 step workforce planning methodology, with a number of our team undertaking the CIPD Strategic Workforce Planning course.

We can provide a bespoke team to meet your skills requirements, with a specialist team of workforce, HR, analysts, clinical, engagement and transformation consultants to draw upon. We work in partnership to achieve a value for money solution.

Alongside our strategic workforce planning expertise, we also have experience in developing workforce strategies and programme managing workforce transformation initiatives including shared service development.

Workforce Planning Methodology

In her last news and views article, Dianna introduced herself as Workforce Offer Lead at the TU and talked about the importance of workforce in the work we carry out…

Workforce Planning Methodology

Our strategic workforce planning approach is made up of 8 key steps:

  1. Define the plan and mobilise
  2. Develop a comprehensive workforce profile through stakeholder engagement and data analysis
  3. Develop a comprehensive population profile from data insights and appraise the strategic context for the service and associated workforce, through literature review and stakeholder engagement
  4. Understand the future service design and assess the impact on workforce requirements
  5. Map knowledge, skills and competencies required in the future workforce, co-designing future workforce models together
  6. Gap analysis and options appraisal, with consideration for train, retain and reform
  7. Production of the strategic workforce plan
  8. Implementation of the plan through dedicated programme management and workforce expertise.

Through early discussions we can ascertain your resource requirements, priorities and financial envelope to ensure we provide a value-added service whether that be for a single step, full approach, or even delivering training to upskill your teams in the approach.
