Connecting with our Local Community

What do we mean by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?

As an organisation that shares the spirit and values of the NHS, we recognise that we have a duty to make a positive contribution to society beyond our daily work. We have chosen to focus our efforts on the following four areas to deliver social value through our activities, both within and outside of the organisation:

  • Health and wellbeing of our employees and stakeholders –
    • Our Health and Wellbeing Group utilises the “Five Ways to Wellbeing” approach to offer mental and physical health and wellbeing support to the people who make up the TU.
  • Contributions to sustainable local communities through volunteering and charitable giving –
    • At the TU, each of our team have five days’ worth of ‘volunteer hours’ to use as they see fit each year to support local organisations, either individually or through group organised volunteering events.
  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
    • Our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Working Group drive four pillars of work that make up our EDI strategy and translate our commitments into direct action.
  • Sustainability and Climate Change
    • We are committed to increasing our team’s knowledge of sustainability and net zero.

Through focusing our CSR activities in these areas, we commit to delivering social value for the benefit of our team, those we work with, and our communities.

“Volunteering has helped me to develop my professional skills and make a difference in my community. It has improved my confidence and supported my wellbeing.”

Alex Vincent, Transformation Consultant

Our CSR Approach

Our TU CSR Working Group is made up of members from across our organisation. The group’s efforts focus on four key priorities that form our CSR strategy based on the United Nations CSR model.

These are:

  1. Giving Back: Using our volunteer hours for local volunteering opportunities that help our communities.
  2. Economic: Understanding and addressing health inequalities by considering population health needs through all our approaches, underpinned by our dedication to championing equality, diversity, and inclusion for both NHS staff and patients.
  3. Ethical: Actively considering and striving to improve the social and environmental impact and value of our work, and increasing the impact of our work by sharing our knowledge and skills with colleagues who work across the health and care sectors.
  4. Environmental: Giving due attention to national guidance on Green Plans and Net Zero in our client work.

The diagram is split into four areas to demonstrate this and colour coded to represent the three stakeholder groups. These are our client, transformation unit and individuals.
